Loved your take on the essence of life... After thirty-five years in industry as a chemist/software engineer, I can say without exception that my two favorite days at any company I ever worked for (thirteen in thirty-five years) were my first day and my last day. One can always get more of life's physical trappings, but every moment spent is one that you'll never get back in this life... so make sure you spend your moments on the things that are important to you... I spent the majority of my moments making memories... and I've never been sorry for it.
Oh my gosh! I sincerely apologize for my poor writing! I hope you can recover from the traumatic experience, have a nice New Year, and find joy in your future! God bless you with peace, prosperity, and joy for eternity! Amen
I like your take on most things. This column focuses on things that aren't that important to me, and I am also of the "shanty Irish" lineage. Consider that identity politics in itself has morphed into some sort of a caste system. I don't care where VIvek comes from and take everything he or Musk say with a critical mindset. Somehow and somewhere we have lost our bearings and forgot about what enabled America to be what made is so great in the not too distant past. Happy New Year. Consider that it isn't that simple and there are other things more important. This link is long but expresses a more thoughtful view in my mind. Let me know what you think. I highly recommend this cat's Substack. One of the best and some funny memes too. https://substack.com/app-link/post?publication_id=323914...

I tried to click on the first link and got an error message - I totally agree with your sentiment also, “lost our bearings and forgot about what enabled America to be what made is so great in the not too distant past.” Thank you for commenting.
Thoughtful piece as usual. I do see a positive in all this dirty laundry being strewn across the yard: In an alternative timeline, Harris/Walz wins and we don't have this discussion at all—they just keep the accelerator floored for four more years, probably eight. And like I'm always haranguing about on X, they continue to destroy independent contractors and shackle small businesses—which is a connected issue as far as freedom vs. servitude & government overreach/authoritarianism in the working world.
There is a race to the bottom for labor cost. China is losing textile work to Viet Nam, Bangladesh and Cambodia. FoxCon assembles I-Phones under contract to Apple. Not log ago there was an expose on labor issues including worker suicides. You are on track about corporate morals.
Totally misguided analysis. We want foreign workers that are talented and because they are talented. Any other objective is an abuse of the HB-1 program.
You’re as bad as the sitcoms. You are offended by those who want their children to be as exceptional as they can be, to reach their full potential. You actually advocate mediocrity. Shame on you.
Your statement is false, or at best anecdotal. In tech, H1B is used primarily to recruit new college graduates. It is never used to fire American employees.
Vivek is right. American culture and public schools DO favor blatant mediocrity over hard work and merit, and that makes American graduates less desirable compared to foreign graduates who studied hard and got good grades but did not make the pom pom team. This is a generality of course. There are individual exceptions but they are rare. Have you looked at a group photo of the MIT math team recently? Speaks volumes.
A college degree was never necessary to have a good financially secure life in the United States - hard work was. Those of us who do have degrees are just as desirable, just not as cheap. Vivek is an elitist and globalist
Gotta have an Indian surname to even get an interview for any Silly-con valley tech jobs. Ask how I know...I'm Irish/Scotch like you Sarah.
Turns out I’m also Scotch-Irish (or as my mom used to say, the Irish who drink Scotch lol). Thank you for reading & commenting!

So glad to hear this - yes, we can sometimes get our money back but never our time!
JFC, what utter slop.

Great way of looking at it — and we needed this debate. Thank you for reading & commenting, Jake!!

Oh yeah, the FoxCon suicide nets outside the windows in order to prevent the “employees” from killing themselves! Thanks for commenting, Tom!

Lol
H1B is used to fire skilled American workers and replace them with cheaper skilled labor. Shame on you for supporting the exploitation of Americans.
Your statement is false, or at best anecdotal. In tech, H1B is used primarily to recruit new college graduates. It is never used to fire American employees.
Musk and Ramaswamy work hard to turn our country into India because they are anti-white and greedy.
